The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (“OFCCP”), and other governmental agencies enforce federal regulations created to monitor and protect against employment discrimination based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, race, sex, and national origin.
Each year, employers that enter into government subsidized contracts for goods and services must collect and provide information on the composition of its workforce to the EEOC via the "Employer Information Report", or the EEO-1.
Starting with 2017 report, the EEOC will now require not only sex and gender information, among other things, but will now add a category for employee pay data. This additional data requirement will assist the EEOC and OFCCP in more specifically identifying and helping reduce pay discrimination between genders and races that is still prevalent today. However, in order to accommodate employers’ transition in collecting this additional data, the deadline for submission of the 2017 reports have been postponed from September 30, 2017 to March 31, 2018.
